Reimagining Tradition, Honouring Textile Heritage
Reawakening Heritage Spaces Through Light, Technology and Collective Imagination from Southeast Asia
TERANG is more than a series of projection mapping public artworks – it is a cultural movement powered by light, creativity and purpose.
Led by new media art collective Filamen, TERANG brings digital art to Malaysia’s overlooked heritage buildings, using immersive storytelling and projection mapping to breathe new life into these forgotten architectural gems in a bid to promote public appreciation and preservation of heritage sites. With plans to return annually, TERANG is envisioned as a long-term cultural platform – one that connects Southeast Asia’s creative communities, foster cross border collaboration and reimagines public art in urban spaces.
RUBIX Communication worked closely with Filamen to position TERANG as both cultural experience and a regional creative initiative with purpose. Heritage storytelling through digital innovation formed the core of our PR strategy, executed through focused media relations and immersive walkthroughs tailored for culturally inclined journalists and content creators. With sustained media relations and strategic content placement, we ensured TERANG achieved good visibility across traditional, digital and social platforms – transforming a moment of art into a movement of meaning.
The strategy centered on storytelling, emphasising the fusion of tradition and technology, bridging the old and new, and strategically aligned with the celebrations of Merdeka and Malaysia Day. The narrative was meticulously crafted to engage audiences effectively, while a multi-faceted approach was deployed to ensure broad visibility across various audience segments throughout the country.
TERANG lit up not just buildings but imaginations. The campaign received coverage across major Malaysian news outlets and social platforms, sparking public interest in urban heritage and Southeast Asia’s rising new media talent.
